With covid restrictions now lifted, we can all start thinking about heading off on holiday once again – a well-earned break after the difficult 18 months we’ve all had.

Overseas travel, however, is still not particularly guaranteed right now, so a staycation may well be the better option… and if you’re wondering where to go, North Wales or Cumbria could both be excellent options.

New research from Sykes Holiday Cottages, reported on by the Guardian, has just revealed these as being the most popular destinations for staycation Brits this summer, overtaking Devon and Cornwall for the first time ever.

Other places featuring in the top ten rundown included North Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District, followed by south Wales, East Anglia and Dorset.

Chief executive of Sykes Holiday Cottages Graham Donoghue explained that the pandemic is likely to continue having an impact on holiday choices, saying: “We expect the shift towards holidays at home to stick and home to continue to see staycation destinations outside of the usual honeypot locations grow in popularity in the years to come.”

So what are the top attractions waiting to be discovered in North Wales and Cumbria? Well, in the latter, you’ll find the Lake District National Park, Lake Windermere, Hadrian’s Wall, Scafell Pike, the World of Beatrix Potter, South Lakes Safari Zoo and a whole lot more.

And in North Wales, you’ll find Snowdonia National Park, Portmeirion, the Isle of Anglesey,  Beaumaris Castle, Bodnant Garden and all sorts of other delights… you certainly won’t be bored!
